“The three great elemental sounds in nature
are the sound of rain,
the sound of wind in a primeval wood,
and the sound of outer ocean on a beach.”

“The eye can see what we have in common
or focus on what keeps us apart.
And the heart can feel what joins us with everything
or replay its many cuts.
And the tongue can praise the wind
or warn against the storm,
can praise the sea or dread the flood.”
Mark Nepo
The Book of Awakening: Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have“

“Smell is a potent wizard
that transports you across thousands of miles
and all the years you have lived.
The odors of fruits waft me to my southern home,
to my childhood frolics in the peach orchard.
Other odors, instantaneous and fleeting,
cause my heart to dilate joyously
or contract with remembered grief.
Even as I think of smells,
my nose is full of scents that start awake
sweet memories of summers gone
and ripening fields far away.”
Helen Keller

“Joy is a return to the deep harmony of body, mind, and spirit
that was yours at birth and that can be yours again.
That openness to love,
that capacity for wholeness with the world around you,
is still within you.”
Deepak Chopra

“To get the full value of joy
you must have someone to divide it with.”
Mark Twain

“If you were all alone in the universe
with no one to talk to,
no one with which to share the beauty of the stars,
to laugh with, to touch,
what would be your purpose in life?
It is other life, it is love,
which gives your life meaning.
This is harmony.
We must discover the joy of each other,
the joy of challenge,
the joy of growth.”

Jesus died for each and every one of us.
If Jesus valued us enough
to go through what He went through,
we owe it to Him to value what He values.
We need to love what He loves – us.
The Bible even tells us that the Father loves us
as much as He loves Jesus (John 17:23).
How dare we not love what the Father loves.
Learning to love ourselves
prepares and helps us to love our neighbor.”

“Faith is not primarily about believing
a set of claims to be true-
that’s what goes with the earlier vision of Christianity.
The understanding of faith
that goes with the emerging vision
is about a relationship of trust in God
and faithfulness to God.
The ancient meaning of the word “believe”
is “to commit oneself, to be loyal to.”
The Middle English word is “beleve,”
and that means to love or be loved.
So faith is about loving God
and loving that which God loves—
which is the whole of creation.”
From an interview of Jesus scholar Marcus Borg
by Deborah Caldwell about his book
The Heart of Christianity

Thoughts for Saturday, May 18, 2019
Written by Marynance

The sun had set –
the sky was softly glowing,
its clouds just dark grey silhouettes.
Large and round and seeming very full
I saw the Moon tonight –
the mid-May moon –
rising in the eastern sky
– the sky so newly cleansed by late spring rains
and cleared by winds from out the West.
I saw the Moon tonight –
a rather gray-ish speckled moon
and only faintly luminescent –
staring down at Earth
unseeing.

The Algonquin had named this moon –
in their tradition full moons had a different name each month –
May’s was called the Flower Moon
to celebrate the flowers bursting forth in Springtime glory.

I saw the Moon tonight-
it almost was the Flower Moon –
it was the eve before its fullness was complete –
I saw Blue Flower Moon
that isn’t blue –
the color just a way of saying that it’s a special moon;
unusual
because each season has but three full moons
and this is number four.

I saw the pale Blue Moon that isn’t blue tonight –
the extra Full Moon rising this mid-May
in skies rain-cleansed.
I saw the Moon –
and saw the birthing
of Blue Flower Full Moon.

Cinco de Mayo (Mexico)
Selected by Marynance

Literally “the Fifth of May,” Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican Holiday celebrating the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862. In 1861, France sent a massive army to invade Mexico, as they wanted to collect on some war debts. The French army was much larger, better trained and equipped than the Mexicans struggling to defend the road to Mexico City.

It rolled through Mexico until it reached Puebla, where the Mexicans made a valiant stand, and, against all logic, won a huge victory. It was short-lived, as the French army regrouped and continued; eventually taking Mexico City, but the euphoria of an unlikely victory against overwhelming odds is remembered every May fifth.
In the U.S. however, Cinco de Mayo not only celebrates the victory at the Battle of Puebla, but the culture and heritage of the Mexican people.

Workers and labor activists around the world will gather in streets and city centers to mark International Workers’ Day. The unofficial holiday, known as May Day in the United States, originates from the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago, when police tried to disperse a crowd of protesters during a labor strike. Someone threw a bomb at the officers, who responded by firing on the protesters; seven officers and four civilians were killed, and scores of others were wounded.
Since then, many countries have designated May 1 to commemorate the deadly incident and honor the world’s hard-working laborers. People typically mark the day by participating in demonstrations and street marches.

International Dance Day

International Dance Day was founded in 1982 by the Dance Committee of International Theatre Institute (ITI ) to be celebrated every year on April 29, the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), known as the father of modern ballet. The intention is to celebrate dance, revel in the universality of this art form, cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers,
and bring people together with a common language – dance.
Every year a message from an outstanding choreographer or dancer is circulated throughout the world. The author of the message is selected by the International Dance Committee of ITI and the Executive Council of ITI. The message is translated into numerous languages and circulated globally.

“Man often becomes what he believes himself to be.
If I keep on saying to myself
that I cannot do a certain thing,
it is possible that I may end
by really becoming incapable of doing it.
On the contrary,
if I have the belief that I can do it,
I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it
even if I may not have it at the beginning.”

“There are an awful lot of scientists today
who believe that before very long
we shall have unraveled
all the secrets of the universe.
There will be no puzzles anymore.
To me, it’d be really, really tragic
because I think one of the most exciting things

the feeling of looking at a little live thing
and being amazed by it
and how it has emerged
through these hundreds of years of evolution

Holy Thursday (Christian)
Selected by Marynance

Holy Thursday, also known as Maundy Thursday, Covenant Thursday, Great and Holy Thursday, and Thursday of Mysteries, is the Christian feast or holy day falling on the Thursday before Easter that commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles.
The Mass of the Lords Supper initiates the Easter Triduum, the three days of Friday, Saturday and Sunday that commemorate the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus. It is normally celebrated in the evening, when according to Jewish tradition Friday begins.

“Self-love is the basis of love of others.
It is where real charity begins.
When you love yourself, it will spill over;
when you don’t love yourself,
your energy will consciously or unconsciously
be focused on finding it,
and you won’t have time for anybody else.
Self-love isn’t selfish;

GOD’S LIGHT SHINES THROUGH YOU
True self-love is the most amazing acknowledgement
of God’s goodness.
It is the willingness to embrace your light,
live your truth,
and be the person God made you to be.
We have been taught anything but this.
We’ve learned to associate self-love
with narcissism and ego.
We’ve learned false humility.
We’ve learned to judge, criticize,
and negate our truth.
What a wonderful world it would be
if we could release all that
and let our truth and our light shine,
for in reality, that is God’s truth,
and God’s light shining through you!
God bless you!
We love you so very much.
The Angels
Angel Whispers

“Love blossoms from the inside out.
That is why it is so important
to do the work necessary
to heal our emotional wounds,
to love ourselves
and stand strong in who we are.
Only then,
are we truly free to give and receive love,
unconditionally and in abundance.”

“Your life is a sacred journey.
It is about change, growth, discovery,
movement, transformation,
continuously expanding your vision of what is possible,
stretching your soul,
learning to see clearly and deeply,
listening to your intuition,
taking courageous challenges
at every step along the way.
You are on the path…
exactly where you are meant to be right now…
And from here, you can only go forward,
shaping your life story into a magnificent tale of triumph,
of healing, of courage, of beauty, of wisdom,
of power, of dignity, and of love.”

“There comes a moment in every life
when the Universe presents you with an opportunity

but the wise long for a state of tranquility.”

“The purity of peace,
which is genuine happiness,
cannot be found outside of you…
When you are at peace…
you are pure life—
complete, fulfilled, whole,
and you are everything
you could possibly want or need…
Peace is true fulfillment.”
Dr. Janice Anderson & Kiersten Anderson

“Look for the joy in each and every day.
Just because it isn’t immediately obvious,
that doesn’t mean it’s not there.”

“Joy does not simply happen to us.
We have to choose joy
and keep choosing it every day.”
Henri Nouwen

“We hold the key to our own happiness.
We basically decide what will make us happy
and what will make us sad.
The more we open up to the Creator,
the more we open up to finding joy
 and breaking through the walls
that prevent us from seeing it and feeling it.
The energy for joy comes from God.
Because God is within each of us,
we have everything we need to be joyful.”
Alexandra Leclere

it’s like a new birthday:
it’s a new chance to be great again
and make great decisions.”

“Rather than see aging as a reason to contract,
we should view it as an opportunity to expand.
We should make sure each year of our lives
is more interesting than the one before.”
