There is a part of us all, I think, that misses doing the show, Oreo, but I cannot lie – retirement is nice, mostly because there is no schedule to keep, but also that it leaves us each time to write and pursue projects we intended to address but had too little time. That said, I am thrilled that, for now, we are able to continue helping everyone here and through emails.
In my opinion, one of the reasons so many young people (and older people, for that matter) are overweight, have “man boobs,” begin puberty at a younger age, etc., is because of the wide consumption of soy (a plant-based estrogen that young women do not need, and young men certainly do NOT need), genetically engineered grains (that, in addition to killing pests, which is important, also kill pollinating insects that actually produce food, such as honey, vegetables and fruits), too much sugar and other processed foods. For this reason, we often recommended our ANTIFUNGAL FOOD CHOICES LIST diet. I also encourage you to obtain a copy of the article called SOY FUN FACTS, to see why soy is not good for anyone. Also, many people think they will lose weight by avoiding sugar in favor of using Splenda, Equal, Truvia, Sweet n’ Low and other ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS that are anything but “natural,” and also are known to cause weight gain.
Another reason I think people are overweight is because there is so little activity anymore. Further, there seems to be so little face to face interaction with friends and family anymore; studies in the U.S. show children being more anxious, depressed and awkward socially. Every generation has its challenges and I do not envy parents today who must open their eyes and get their families back together again and off all those devices.
I do not know about you, but when I was 12, I was skinny because my parents fed me better AND I was very active; all of the kids in our neighborhood were active and thin. There was television but our lives did not revolve around it, we had no gaming on television and when we did play games in the house, they were board and card games that we played with the entire family, including our parents! Otherwise, games were played outside with all of the kids in the neighborhood. Ahhhh, those were great times that I wish more families enjoyed today.
But these are only a few general causes of weight gain and harm to our health, physically, mentally and emotionally, I think.
I suggest requesting our Questionnaire by emailing me directly: Vicki@FIGTreeLive.com, which can be completed and returned for further suggestions that may help your nephew with his specific needs. Thank you for your concern; it is a valid one!

Hi Vicki and Dr Lorna, wow I sure miss the radio program. Hope y’all are enjoying retirement. I’ve heard you talk about “Man Boobs” before. My 12 year old nephew is some what over weight and has them. Would you please refresh my memory on the topic and what’s the best treatment for him. Thank y’all for sharing all you’re wisdom.
